Supernatural Episode 5.07
As always, spoilers are

I was a bit worried about this episode. Let's just say that losing years before one's time really is a huge kinda squick of mine. But when I saw Dean play FOR Bobby, it actually relieved a lot of my anxiety. Dean might be a cocky sob, but he would never have gotten into that game if it hadn't been to save someone he loved. And it made perfect sense for Bobby's state of mind for him to attempt something like this.

I do like that they're not shying away from Bobby's disability, that they didn't magic him better immediately.

I admit I was cranky about the old man jokes at Dean's expense. I know it was supposed to be funny and a slam on how Dean is arrogant about his looks and physical ability. But something I've chatted with [info]lapillus before is how to break Dean, and we agreed it would be to take something physical away from him. If he were in that chair instead of Bobby, that would break him because his identity is so wrapped up in his physical ability. He's the soldier while Sam is the brain.  It also bothered me because Dean already had those years stolen from him when he spent them in Hell. [info]lapillus said his outside is just matching the inside, but I feel bad for that Dean. He was cheated of that time, and I hated to see it displayed so physically now.

Although Dean did show a bit of wisdom there in the end with his talk with Bobby. It's funny, because as much as Bobby is the father figure, what we saw there was Dean being the big brother to Bobby. And actually, he IS technically older, dude to his 40 years in hell. But once again we peel past Dean's layers, see that beyond the crusty exterior there is someone who is intuitive and genuining caring, when it comes to his family anyway.

As for Sam...anyone else think Sam cheated or physiced those cards at the end? I do think he outsmarted the guy at one point, when he bluffed Patrick into folding. But his concern for Dean? It was all real.

All in all, not a bad ep. Looking forward to next week.
